What's new in Dram Notes
The latest version is 1.7.3, released 8 November 2026. Every release is listed below, newest first.
1.7.3 — 2026-11-08
- Tapping Drams, or coming back to it from a dram, no longer reopens the Add sheet. The bar's Add request is used once and cleared, where before it stayed set and fired every time the tab appeared.
1.7.2 — 2026-11-08
- Add dram moves into the bottom bar, a raised button in the middle between Drams and Dashboard. Pressing it from the dashboard goes to Drams and opens the Add sheet. The bar sits on a stronger surface with a rule along its top, so it stands out from the page.
- Settings leaves the bar for a cog at the top right of Drams and Dashboard, and gets its back arrow again.
- Search works on a long list. The field used to be inserted inside the scrolling list, so on a list taller than the screen it landed above the visible top and seemed to do nothing. It now sits above the list and takes the keyboard as it opens.
1.7.1 — 2026-11-08
Fixes from the first day on a phone.
- The ratings chart drew its bars over their own labels; it now takes the height it needs and keeps every column on one baseline.
- Swiping a card right or left needs a longer pull (six tenths of the card) and only counts when let go past that line, so a flick does nothing. Every swipe shows an Undo bar.
- Settings → About gains "Show the welcome screens again" and "Show the Pro tour". The Pro tour opens once by itself the first time Pro is found unlocked, one page per feature.
- The dashboard's figures sit flat on the page so they no longer look like buttons, and the two tools (Tasting sessions, Photo wall) look like buttons: a tinted card, a coloured edge and a chevron.
- Cost (Pro) joins the figures whenever there is a bottle in the collection: what you paid, falling back to the shop price the app read, with "n of m priced" beneath and "add what you paid" against a bottle with neither.
- Tasting sessions are described plainly everywhere: the drams you had at the same time, wherever that was.
1.7.0 — 2026-11-08
Colour, photos, a proper typeface, and more to do on the list.
- The bottle is the level. My bottle shows a drawn bottle filled to the level; drag on it or tap Full, ¾, ½, ¼ or Dregs (Pro). The word is the reading; the exact figure stays in the edit form. The same small bottle marks each open bottle on the dashboard.
- Colour that means something: six region colours (Islay sea-teal, Speyside heather, Highland moss, Lowland gold, Campbeltown brick, Islands slate) on badges, map highlights and dashboard bars; nine flavour-category colours on the wheel's chips and the radar's axes; green for a bottle owned, heather for one wanted, amber for one open; heather for actions (Add, the selected tab, Pro).
- Photos on the cards: each card shows the dram's photo, or a monogram of the distillery's initials on its region's colour when there is none. The dram's screen puts the photo behind its header.
- Fraunces for titles (SIL Open Font License), Roboto for the rest, tabular figures everywhere a price or a rating is shown.
- The dram's screen in three groups: Facts, Mine and Notes under a segmented control, Share in the top bar.
- The list: search; sort by newest, rating, name or region, with a section per region; swipe a card right to mark a bottle bought, left to add it to the wishlist; long-press to choose several and add them to a session or delete them.
- Dashboard charts: sparklines under the four figures, a rating histogram, drams by region as bars, and the collection's worth as a stacked bar by region.
- Motion: screens slide in a little as they fade, a tapped star swells, the bottle's level glides, the dram's tabs cross-fade. Short, and off with the phone's reduce-motion setting.
- First run: three screens on a fresh install (what the app keeps, the four ways in, the privacy promise), skippable, never shown again.
- Smaller: Save in the edit form's top bar; the sessions list names the night's winner and Share is a button on a session; compare tints the rows that differ; the flavour wheel's chips are outlined in their category's colour and fill when picked.
1.6.0 — 2026-11-08
A new shape for the app.
- Bottom bar: Drams, Dashboard and Settings are tabs along the bottom; Back from any tab returns to Drams. Sessions and the photo wall open from the dashboard, as before.
- One Add button on the list opens a sheet with the four ways in (scan a tasting list, scan a bottle label, from a web link, type it in), each with a line on what it does. The stack of four floating buttons is gone.
- Region badges: each card names its Scotch region, or its country, in a pill; the small map and globe stay on the dram's screen and the dashboard.
- Look: warm white cards on cream, with every surface tone set in the theme so the stock lavender card is gone; one radius family; small uppercase section labels; four figures at the top of the dashboard (drams, average, bottles, worth); and a dark oak header on the dram's screen with the map, stars and collection chips inside it. The same care in the dark theme.
1.5.1 — 2026-11-08
- My bottle on the dram's screen: once a bottle is marked as owned, its fill level is always shown as a bar with its label, full or not, with what was paid and when it was opened beneath; Pro can move the level there without opening the edit form. Previously a full bottle showed no level at all.
- Your taste says what it needs: when no dram carries flavours from the wheel yet, the card explains where to pick them instead of leaving the radar out silently.
- Support by email: "Report a problem" in Settings starts an email to dram@wildsitecreations.co.uk with the version filled in, and a Website row opens the app's page at wildsitecreations.co.uk. The privacy policy names the address and is published at the website.
1.5.0 — 2026-11-07
Six more features, five of them Pro.
- Flavour wheel notes (Pro): nose, palate and finish, tap-to-pick descriptors from a nine-category wheel, and a flavour radar on the dram, the dashboard and the comparison. Average rating by flavour joins Your taste.
- Tasting sessions (Pro): group drams into a festival, club night or distillery visit, rank them, keep notes on the night and share it.
- Wishlist (Pro): "Want this" on a dram, the shop it was seen in, a Wanted list on the dashboard cheapest first and a Wanted filter on the list. Buying the bottle takes it off the list.
- Compare (Pro): two drams side by side from "Compare with another dram…" on a dram's screen.
- Photo wall (Pro): every bottle shot in a grid, from the dashboard.
- Home screen widget (free): the newest dram with its rating; tap to open the app.
- Room schema 9 (sessions table and the new columns), backup version 9 with sessions and their links restored, CSV columns for the lot.
1.4.0 — 2026-11-07
- Tasted at on every dram: the bar, festival, distillery or shelf it was had at. Edit form, the dram's screen, the share text, the CSV, and a "By place" grouping on the dashboard. Room schema 8, backup version 8.
- Blind tasting removed: a blind pour needs someone else to pour it, so rating from the clues alone was a guess. Pro now has three features.
1.3.0 — 2026-11-07
Dram Notes Pro.
- Pro is a one-off in-app purchase through Google Play.
billing/Entitlements.ktis the one place that knows whether it is owned;billing/Pro.ktholds the pure decisions. Builds that didn't come from the Play Store show a developer toggle that pretends Pro is owned, since they can't buy anything. - Collection value and bottle levels (Pro): an owned bottle records what was paid, how full it is and when it was opened (edit form, "My bottle"). The dashboard shows what the collection is worth per currency and the open bottles, emptiest first. Room schema 7, backup version 7 (older files still restore).
- Your taste (Pro): average ratings by region, cask family and age band on the dashboard, with a one-line insight once three drams are rated.
- Blind tasting (Pro): a dram from the shelf with its name hidden, rated from the clues, then revealed; the rating is kept on the dram.
- Export to CSV (Pro): every dram, with ratings, notes and the bottle columns, as a spreadsheet written wherever the user picks.
- Settings gains a Dram Notes Pro section with the price, Unlock, Restore purchase and the paywall; the paywall also opens from the dashboard and the edit form. The privacy policy gains a Purchases section.
1.2.0 — 2026-11-07
Drams from anywhere.
- Country on every dram, filled in from the distillery or from the cask number's code, and typed when neither says. Shown on the card, the dram's screen and the shared text.
- The Scotland map is drawn only for Scotch; any other dram gets a small globe with the country's latitude marked and the country named under it.
- Backups move to version 6; older files still restore. Room schema 6.
1.1.0 — 2026-11-07
Ready for a Play listing.
- Settings screen replaces the backup dialog: Back up and Restore, then About with the version, what the app does with data, the privacy policy, a link to report a problem, and the open-source licences.
- App Bundle for Play:
./gradlew :app:bundleRelease. The arm64-only filter now applies only to the sideload APK. - R8 shrinking on for release builds.
store/listing.mddrafts the Play listing, content rating and data safety answers.
1.0.0 — 2026-11-07
First numbered release. Any dram, not just a cask bottling from a tasting list.
- Distillery and bottler fields on every dram. A cask bottling still derives its distillery from the cask number; anything else names it. The region is filled in from the distillery.
- Add from any whisky shop's page: schema.org product data and Open Graph tags give the name, photo, price and description; the distillery, bottler, age, strength and region are found in the text. The cask-bottling shop keeps its own reader.
- Scan a bottle label: a second scan button reads the distillery, bottler, age statement, strength, cask type and distillation date off a label.
- Edit form: distillery suggestions while typing, tasting-list rows (outturn, dram letter) folded away unless filled.
- Cards, the dram's screen, the dashboard's By distillery section and the shared text show the named distillery and bottler.
- Backups move to version 5; older files still restore. Room schema 5.
- The version is shown under Backup in the settings dialog.
0.1.0
Unnumbered builds up to 7 November 2026: scanning a tasting-list entry, ratings, photos, notes, sharing, JSON backup and restore, the region map, distillery from the cask number, adding from the cask-bottling shop's page, the collection (Bought a bottle?), and entering a dram by hand.
